Criticized after leaving the UFC, Francis Ngannou defends his choice, calling it crucial for his career. He insists he has opened a new path in combat sports.
During a discussion with Ariel Helwani, Ngannou responded to doubts about his journey: "It's the best decision of my life... I did something that no one had done before. No one had been able to reach the position I am in today. I opened that door, and I did it my way. I was the first."
Ngannou highlights his transition to boxing and his projects outside of traditional MMA. Notably, he has fought Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.
The former UFC heavyweight champion left the organization after his fight against Renan Fereira in October 2023. He is continuing his career outside the UFC with a different approach. His next fight is scheduled for May 16, 2026, in Los Angeles, against Philipe Lins.
This fight against Philipe Lins marks his return to MMA and will take place as part of the first MMA event broadcast live on Netflix. The event, titled "Rousey vs. Carano, Ngannou vs. Lins," will also feature a fight between Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano.
Both Ngannou and Lins are known for their striking power, with a combined total of 22 knockout victories.
Ngannou left the UFC following disagreements with President Dana White regarding health insurance for all fighters and the ability to seek sponsorship deals. He was stripped of his UFC heavyweight title on January 14, 2023.
"Silence shouldn't be mistaken for absence, it's the sound of a predator closing the distance," Ngannou stated, emphasizing that this is not just a return, but a reclamation.
