Former Indomitable Lions defender Nicolas Nkoulou met with officials from the World Food Programme (WFP) in Cameroon this week to discuss challenges related to food security. This meeting marks a turning point for the former Cameroonian international, who announced his retirement from professional sports in February 2026 and now wishes to invest in humanitarian work, particularly in helping vulnerable populations in his country.
Nicolas Nkoulou was received at the WFP offices by the Country Director, Gianluca Ferrera. Discussions focused on initiatives implemented by the UN agency to combat hunger and provide support to communities most affected by food insecurity.
On his social networks, Nicolas Nkoulou expressed his pride in supporting the WFP in this essential mission. "Honored to have visited WFPCameroon today and to have exchanged with the Country Director, Gianluca Ferrera, on food security issues in Cameroon. Ending hunger requires collective action and I am proud to support initiatives that bring hope and help to vulnerable communities," he said.
At the age of 35, Nicolas Nkoulou ended a rich and varied professional football career, which saw him play for prestigious clubs such as Monaco, Marseille, Lyon and Torino. He was also a pillar of the Cameroonian national team, with which he won the African Cup of Nations in 2017.
Nicolas Nkoulou's commitment to the World Food Programme demonstrates his desire to put his notoriety and energy at the service of a cause crucial to the development of Cameroon. After shining on the football field, he now intends to contribute to the fight against hunger and the improvement of the living conditions of the most vulnerable populations.
Nkoulou plans to return to school to better serve football.
