The Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) has announced the creation of a Regional Super League, marking a significant step in its strategy to develop amateur football. This new competition, scheduled to launch in the 2026/2027 season, aims to structure and boost amateur football throughout the country.
The main objective of this initiative is to raise the level of competitiveness within regional football, while providing an increased exposure platform for local clubs and players. The Regional Super League also aims to strengthen the talent pool at the national level and ensure a better transition to professional championships.
The qualification modalities for the inaugural season of the Regional Super League are clear. The top twelve clubs from regions with more than 27 registered teams will secure their place, while the top ten will qualify in regions where the number of clubs is below this threshold. FECAFOOT specifies that the rankings will take into account promotions and relegations recorded at the end of the 2025/2026 season. Teams that do not qualify will continue to play in the regional championships.
The competition will take place in a single group in each region, using a round-robin format. This format will ensure regularity and fairness, while offering a busy schedule for the teams involved.
This initiative is part of a broader FECAFOOT effort to revitalize grassroots football, as evidenced by the recent launch of the FIFA-backed U-17 Elite Youth Football Championship. By structuring amateur football and providing opportunities for young talents, FECAFOOT hopes to build a solid foundation for the future of Cameroonian football.
