The Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) is once again at the center of a financial controversy, with travel agencies claiming significant payments for services rendered. Marwan and Medi Voyages accuse FECAFOOT, led by Samuel Eto'o, of failing to honor its financial commitments, leaving unpaid invoices accumulating.
The travel agencies are claiming a total of 911,716,494 FCFA, which includes the principal of 774,287,721 FCFA for the sale of airline tickets, as well as 77,428,773 FCFA in interest accrued at a rate of 10% per year since June 2023. In addition, there are 60 million FCFA in prosecution and prior deposit costs incurred in connection with a legal action.
According to documents from the Fojou law firm, Medi Voyages had already sent a formal notice to pay to Samuel Eto'o and FECAFOOT in January 2025, claiming 206,416,464 FCFA for unpaid airline tickets. These tickets were allegedly issued at Eto'o's request for national teams and delegations, both for official matches and missions.
Robert Fojou, the lawyer mandated by Medi Voyages, claims that FECAFOOT had already received funds from the Ministry of Sports (MINSEP) to cover the costs of these airline tickets, delivered since April 2023. However, these funds would not have been paid to the travel agencies. Medi Voyages reportedly even took out loans from BGFI and NFC banks to finance the issuance of these tickets, and is now in financial difficulty, with banking bans and difficulties in paying its staff.
In a correspondence, the complaining agency reports that Eto'o had promised on several occasions to regularize the situation. However, according to Me Fojou, FECAFOOT officials claim to be waiting for money from the State, while MINSEP services indicate that all trips have been paid in advance based on the budget established by FECAFOOT.
A reconciliation of accounts in February 2025 had already revealed a total debt of 774,287,721 FCFA. Eto'o then reportedly promised a payment of 450 million before March 20, 2025, but this promise was not kept. Faced with this situation, MEDI SARL seized the president of the Tribunal de Grande Instance of Mfoundi, who ordered FECAFOOT to pay the amount due.
These accusations add to the numerous financial controversies surrounding FECAFOOT and its current president, Samuel Eto'o. They highlight the financial management challenges facing the federation, as well as the tensions between the various players in Cameroonian football. The outcome of this case remains uncertain, but it could have significant consequences for the future of FECAFOOT and its leadership.
