The Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) has publicly thanked President Paul Biya for his support during the inauguration of its new headquarters. This recognition follows a series of acknowledgments to various personalities and institutions that contributed to this significant event for Cameroonian football.
The Prime Minister, Joseph Dion Ngute, represented the Head of State at the inauguration ceremony. FECAFOOT, through an official statement, expressed its "deep gratitude" to President Biya and Prime Minister Ngute for the attention and honor given to this historic event.
In the statement, FECAFOOT also thanked Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute for his presence, emphasizing that it "enhanced this day and marked this inauguration with a republican imprint." The governing body of Cameroonian football praised the government's support for the tribute paid to the former president of FECAFOOT, Iya Mohamed, who initiated the project to build the new headquarters.
"This highly symbolic gesture will remain etched in our memories," FECAFOOT stated, emphasizing the importance of recognizing the work of a builder, regardless of the circumstances that may have marked his personal journey. FECAFOOT believes that this recognition contributes to reconciling the memory, history, and the best interests of Cameroonian football.
The new FECAFOOT headquarters, inaugurated on May 13, 2026, is a modern five-story building comprising 60 offices and conference rooms. Samuel Eto'o, the current president of FECAFOOT, emphasized that the completion of the headquarters was one of the priorities of his administration. He also paid tribute to Iya Mohamed, praising his vision and his crucial role in launching this structuring project for Cameroonian football.
The construction of this new headquarters began in November 2012, under the leadership of Iya Mohamed. However, he was unable to complete the project due to his arrest and subsequent conviction for embezzlement of public funds.
FECAFOOT, under the leadership of Samuel Eto'o, was keen to honor the memory of its predecessor and to thank the Cameroonian government, headed by President Paul Biya, for its continued support for the development of football in the country. The inauguration of this new headquarters marks an important step in the modernization of football infrastructure in Cameroon.
