ESSTIC bans planned conference with Samuel Eto'o: Director François Marc Modzom cites "procedural flaws"
Cameroon News

The management of the Higher School of Information and Communication Technology (ESSTIC) has banned an academic conference that was scheduled to take place on its premises with the participation of Samuel Eto'o. The information was made public by an official note signed by the director of ESSTIC, François Marc Modzom, on May 22, 2026.

The ESSTIC administration justifies this ban by citing the "unauthorized" nature of the initiative, as well as numerous "procedural flaws" in its organization. The management also highlights the absence of adequate protocol and security measures, which would be essential to welcome the president of the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT).

According to the note, the arrival of a personality like Samuel Eto'o would require the implementation of a specific system, both in terms of protocol and security. The ESSTIC management believes that the organizers of the conference did not take these requirements into account, which led to the banning of the event.

The director of ESSTIC has firmly reiterated the ban on the conference and warned the initiators of the project, accusing them of having shown "intolerable levity". The administration does not rule out taking severe sanctions against those responsible for this unauthorized initiative. This case highlights the challenges of managing events involving public figures within academic institutions.
