The issue of subsidies for Elite One and Two clubs in Cameroon continues to raise questions. Following the media appearance of the chairman of the board of directors of Colombe Sportive du Dja et Lobo, voices have been raised calling for clear financial communication from FECAFOOT. The aim was to clarify the financial support provided to Elite clubs in recent seasons.
In this context, Pierre Batamack, a member of the FECAFOOT executive committee, declared on February 27, during the 2025 Ballon d'Or ceremony, that the clubs had received their subsidies since February 25. He even encouraged club officials to publicly confirm receipt of these funds to dispel any controversy on social media.
However, following this announcement, reactions are awaited. Questioned by Internet users, club presidents have not yet communicated on the subject. ACEC (Association des Clubs d'Élite du Cameroun), formerly a key player in defending the interests of clubs, remains silent.
This silence contrasts with the statements of an Elite One club official, who stated this Sunday, March 1st, that he had not yet received anything, while acknowledging that the funds could arrive at any time. For his part, Franck Onana, a supporter of the executive in place, is calling for transparency, suggesting that FECAFOOT publish the amounts paid to each club to avoid any speculation.
The exact amount of the subsidy announced by Pierre Batamack remains unknown. This opacity fuels questions and suspicions about the management of funds allocated to Cameroonian professional clubs. In January 2025, the Cameroonian government granted financial aid of 560 million FCFA to teams in the Elite One and Two leagues, intended to pay players' salaries. The Ministry of Sports then specified that 2/3 of this sum would be distributed among the Elite One clubs and 1/3 for those of Elite Two.
Pending official clarification, the issue of subsidies continues to poison relations between FECAFOOT and the clubs, further weakening Cameroonian professional football. The call for transparency is growing louder, in order to guarantee sound and equitable management of the resources allocated to the development of national football.
