The Eid el-Fitr 2026 in Ngaoundéré was marked by a vibrant call for vigilance against sectarianism and radicalization, particularly that which spreads via social networks. This Friday, March 20, the chief imam of the Central Mosque of Ngaoundéré, Yaya Djafarou, warned against the ideological drifts that threaten social cohesion.

The ceremony, which took place in the Onaref district, brought together hundreds of worshipers, as well as important figures from the region, including Lamido Mohamadou Hayatou Issa and the Governor of Adamaoua, Kildadi Taguiéké Boukar. Imam Djafarou insisted on the need to resist sectarian influences that are gaining ground within certain communities, highlighting doctrinal troubles as a major threat to national unity.

Lamido Mohamadou Hayatou Issa particularly appealed to parents, urging them to monitor their children's activity on social networks. He highlighted the dangers of exposure to radical messages that can compromise their future and the stability of the region. This common stance by religious and administrative leaders aims to send a strong signal in an area often perceived as vulnerable due to its proximity to regional hotspots of instability.

The call for unity launched in Ngaoundéré reaffirms the importance of peace as a fundamental value for the Adamaoua region. Faced with the challenges of digital radicalization and religious sectarianism, local authorities and community leaders seem determined to strengthen social cohesion and preserve the stability of the region. Eid el-Fitr, beyond the celebration, has become a moment of collective mobilization for the safeguarding of peace.
