Cameroon's Minister of Public Works, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi, convened a meeting on March 4, 2026, with stakeholders of the Ebolowa–Akom II–Kribi road project to address the final administrative and technical obstacles. This meeting precedes the anticipated signing of a financing agreement worth CFA 130.4 billion (€198.8 million). Works are expected to commence between March and April 2026.
The meeting, conducted in person and via video conference, facilitated a review of the remaining points of obstruction before the agreement takes effect and the contractor fully takes possession of the site. Discussions focused on finalizing expropriation and compensation procedures for affected populations, aligning project documents with the technical partner's requirements, finalizing the conditions for the financing agreement's effectiveness, and securing the release of rights of way.
Participants explored measures to maintain traffic flow on the corridor before the launch of heavy works. Several sensitive sections were identified, with instructions issued to ensure continuous traffic and prevent disruptions.
This meeting follows a non-objection notice issued on December 18, 2025, by the loan insurer's credit committee, authorizing the signing of the financing agreement and resolving significant environmental constraints. The company in charge of the works has already initiated preparatory operations, including sourcing materials, prefabricating certain technical components, and scheduling complementary studies.
Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi called for stricter control of expenditures related to site installations, to direct the bulk of resources toward construction works. He urged all stakeholders to expedite the process to meet the planned timetable.
An updated schedule of priority actions was adopted at the end of the consultation. The project aims to strengthen connectivity between the South Region and the port city of Kribi, facilitating the movement of goods and passengers along a strategic economic corridor. The construction of this road, promised since 2011, will connect the forest basin of the hinterland to the deep-water port of Kribi.
