The Prefect of Wouri, Mvogo Sylyac Marie, is currently facing legal proceedings. Since December 5, 2025, this high-ranking administrative authority, who manages the department encompassing Douala, the economic capital of Cameroon, has been summoned to appear before the public prosecutor's office of the Courts of First and High Instance of Yabassi and Nkam. He faces serious accusations, including breach of trust, complicity in favoritism, and attempted fraud, a rare case that is stirring administrative and political circles in the metropolis.
The whole affair began on November 28, 2025, when a certain Mrs. Kapche Bogne, wife of Tazanou, filed a complaint with the deputy prosecutor at the Court of First Instance of Douala-Bonanjo. This complaint directly targets the Prefect of Wouri and a co-accused, Sosso Essie Claude, for acts described as "breach of trust, complicity in favoritism, and attempted fraud," under articles 74, 94, 143, and 318 (1) b and c of the Cameroonian Penal Code. A judicial source close to the case indicates that an illegal land transaction is at the origin of this affair.
Due to his position, Mvogo Sylyac Marie cannot be judged by a court within his own administrative jurisdiction, in accordance with the Code of Criminal Procedure. Emmanuel Arroye Betou, President of the Littoral Court of Appeal, therefore appointed the Yabassi prosecutor's office, in Nkam, to handle the case since December 5, 2025.
It is essential to emphasize that, at this stage, Mvogo Sylyac Marie is presumed innocent. The case has not yet been judged on its merits, and the appointment of the Yabassi prosecutor's office marks the possible start of a judicial investigation, prior to a possible trial.
