Construction works for the Bonamatoumbé bridge in Douala officially commenced on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, in the presence of the Littoral Region Governor, Samuel Dieudonné Ivaha Diboua. This 60-meter metal structure aims to resolve a major mobility issue in this peripheral area of the city.
Accompanied by the Wouri Prefect, the Mayor of Douala, Dr. Roger Mbassa Ndinè, and local administrative and traditional authorities, the Governor kicked off this large-scale project.
The Ministry of Transport emphasized that this bridge, representing an investment of 1.8 billion FCFA, is more than just infrastructure. It is designed as a growth engine for the Wouri peripheral zone, with the development of a 2x2 lane access road for smooth traffic flow. SOCAF TBC /MEK LOG, the company in charge of the works, has 6 months to complete this project.
The Bonamatoumbé bridge aims to sustainably open up the metropolis, stimulate the local economy, and unlock the land potential of this long-isolated area. The construction of this bridge is part of a dynamic to improve urban mobility in Douala, where existing infrastructure is often congested. Similar projects, such as the second bridge over the Wouri River, also aim to streamline traffic and facilitate access to the port of Douala, the economic heart of Cameroon.
The construction of this type of infrastructure is essential for economic development and regional integration, as demonstrated by the bridge linking Cameroon to Chad.
