Djekam Tchameni Dominique, president of the Movement for Democracy and Independence (MDI), has initiated legal action against journalist Bruno Bidjang for disinformation. From his cell in Kondengui Central Prison, he filed a civil suit, registered at the Yaoundé-Ekounou Court of First Instance on February 2, 2026.
The lawsuit follows a disinformation campaign that Bruno Bidjang allegedly orchestrated on his Facebook page after Djekam Tchameni's arrest at his home in Douala on October 24, 2025. According to the allegations, Bidjang claimed, without evidence, that a search of Tchameni's home had revealed an impressive arsenal, including false ELECAM minutes, weapons, ammunition, military uniforms, tramadol, and large sums of money. The journalist had even promised to release images of these alleged discoveries, a promise that was never kept.
Djekam Tchameni denounces a maneuver aimed at presenting him as a criminal and a conspirator. His arrest and detention in Kondengui occur in a tense political context, marked by accusations of repression against opposition figures. The MDI had denounced the arrest of its leader as arbitrary.
This complaint puts Bruno Bidjang in a delicate position, as he is known for his critical stances. The case raises crucial questions about the responsibility of the media and social networks in spreading unverified information, as well as the use of disinformation as a political weapon. The court will have to determine whether Djekam Tchameni's accusations are founded and whether Bruno Bidjang can prove the veracity of his allegations. In February 2024, Bruno Bidjang was detained for alleged "rebellion".
