In a move to revitalize Cameroonian football, Indomitable Lions coach David Pagou has initiated a training camp for players plying their trade in the local league. The main goal is to restore visibility to local talents and enhance competitiveness within the national team.
David Pagou had already been considering the importance of local players even before taking the reins of the national team. In his view, the Cameroonian league is full of potential. "Even before I was in the den, I wondered why we weren't paying more attention to our players. I watch the games and I see there is talent," he stated.
The coach aims to seize this opportunity to instill confidence in local players, allowing them to dream of a place within the Indomitable Lions and to promote the national league. This gathering is also intended to showcase the country's young talents. It's not just about preparing the national team, but also about stimulating the entire Cameroonian football ecosystem.
The recent successes of youth selections, notably the U17's victory at the UNIFFAC U-17 Tournament, reinforce this desire to focus on local training. "We organized this gathering to give more visibility to our young people who dream of playing in this team. This also concerns league players and even the U17s who have just won UNIFFAC," Pagou emphasized.
Beyond the national team, this approach aims to strengthen the appeal and competitiveness of the local league. By offering a perspective to players playing in the country, the coach hopes to create a virtuous circle where every talent will feel involved in the project.
The five-day camp, which began on March 6, 2026, is taking place in Yaoundé. It is part of the preparations for the March international window, where Cameroon will participate in the FIFA Series in Australia, facing Australia and the People's Republic of China.
With this initiative, David Pagou is sending a strong signal: the doors of the Indomitable Lions are open to local talents, provided they seize their chance.
Among the 30 local players called up, the absence of Serge Daura, winner of the 2025 Cameroonian Ballon d'Or, is noted, due to a professional opportunity abroad.
