Cameroon now knows its opponents for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. The draw placed the Indomitable Lions in Group G, alongside Namibia, Comoros, and Congo Brazzaville.
National coach David Pagou reacted to the draw, stressing the need to approach this campaign with seriousness and ambition. Speaking to FECAFOOT's media, he gave a detailed analysis of the group, while calling on his players to stay focused.
"I would say it's a balanced group, but whenever Cameroon has focused on itself, I think things have always gone well," said David Pagou. However, he nuanced his remarks by stressing that all teams should be taken seriously, as there are no longer any small nations in African football.
The Cameroonian coach particularly warned against Namibia, a team that has often caused problems for the Indomitable Lions in previous qualifying campaigns. He also stressed that Congo Brazzaville is not an opponent to be taken lightly.
David Pagou stressed the importance for Cameroon to focus on their own game and approach each match with the ambition to win. He acknowledged that playing against Cameroon would be an extra motivation for each opposing team.
The group stage of the qualifiers will begin in the fall of 2026, with matches scheduled for September, October and November. The top two teams in each group will qualify for the final phase of the 2027 AFCON, which will be held in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
Cameroon, five-time African champion, will therefore have to show seriousness and determination to secure its qualification for this edition co-organized by three East African countries. David Pagou concluded by expressing the hope that his players would be spared from injury and that they would be able to fully express their talent throughout this campaign.
