AJ Auxerre has secured its place in Ligue 1 following a decisive 2-0 victory against LOSC Lille. This win not only guarantees their spot in the top tier of French football for the upcoming season but also triggers an important clause regarding Danny Namaso's future.
Having arrived on loan from FC Porto, the Cameroonian forward will now have his purchase option automatically activated by the Burgundy club. The initial contract included a clause set at 5 million euros, which became mandatory due to Auxerre's Ligue 1 survival and the significant playing time accumulated by the player.
Danny Namaso, 25, is now permanently linked with AJ Auxerre. Prior to this official confirmation, he was contracted to FC Porto until 2028. The player had joined Auxerre on loan on August 17, 2025, wearing the number 19.
Born in England, Namaso represented England at various youth levels before choosing to play for Cameroon, earning his first two caps in March 2025. Before joining Porto in 2020, he played for Reading.
During his time at FC Porto, Namaso made 106 appearances, including 15 in European competitions, winning a Portuguese league title and two domestic cups along the way. His journey saw him regularly play with Porto's B team, where he honed his skills before joining the first team.
Although he is now permanently transferred to Auxerre, recent rumors suggested a possible return to Porto, or interest from other clubs such as Lille, AS Monaco, Fulham, Atalanta Bergamo, and Real Betis. These clubs might be looking for transfer opportunities if Namaso did not stay at Auxerre.
With this permanent transfer, Danny Namaso continues his journey in Ligue 1, where he will seek to consolidate his place and contribute to the success of AJ Auxerre. His experience gained in Portugal and his performances in France will be valuable assets to the team.
The agreement between Auxerre and Porto also included potential variable compensation, increasing the overall value of the transfer beyond the guaranteed 5 million euros.
Namaso's future will therefore be written in France, under the colors of AJ Auxerre, after a successful season that convinced the club to invest in him for the long term.
