The fifth edition of the Equality League closed its curtains on February 28 in Yaoundé, marking a new stage in the development of women's football in Cameroon. This initiative, supported by FUNDACIÓN LALIGA and the NGO Petrichor, took place on the grounds of the Rain Forest International School and the Bandeko Ewokang Stadium, bringing together six clubs from the Cameroonian capital.
The Equality League, the country's first regulated league exclusively dedicated to young girls under 13, 15 and 17, offered a spectacle of fighting spirit and fair play. Beyond the sporting aspect, this competition aims to be a tool for empowering young girls, by creating spaces where football becomes a lever for self-confidence and learning essential values.
Since 2022, the project has enabled more than 500 girls and women to participate in various activities. At the same time, more than 200 young people aged 8 to 12 have been introduced to the socio-sporting program in their communities, supervised by specialized trainers and benefiting from sports equipment and modules on leadership and good health practices.
The 2026 edition focused on technical training, with 37 women having completed a free coaching course delivered according to the FUNDACIÓN LALIGA's "Values to Win" methodology. This system aims to promote professional integration and strengthen the presence of women in sports supervision.
A major innovation this year was the alliance with UNICEF Cameroon, which has made it possible to intensify activities around the matches and organize awareness-raising sessions on gender rights, giving the tournament an even more marked educational and civic dimension. The Ambassador of Spain to Cameroon, Juan Pedro Pérez-Gómez Delaunay, attended the closing ceremony, demonstrating his institution's support for the project.
Already established in Kenya and South Africa, the Equality League is establishing itself as a model of sports inclusion on an African scale. In Yaoundé, women's football is no longer content to play second fiddle, it is progressing, scoring points and building the future.
