The Martinez Zogo affair, named after the murdered journalist, continues to spark reactions regarding the slowness of its judicial processing. Lawyer Claude Assira has expressed concerns about what he perceives as a lack of significant progress in the trial's proceedings.
As a guest on Canal 2 International's Canal Presse program, Claude Assira shared his critical analysis of the situation. According to him, the current organization of the hearings contributes to a slowdown of the judicial process, thus fueling growing frustration around this highly publicized case.
"So, unfortunately, I fear that the way things have been planned and are unfolding is just the implementation of a strategy aimed, from my point of view, at making the trial last unnecessarily and abusively," Claude Assira stated. He pointed to the repetition of testimonies and the summoning of numerous speakers who, in his opinion, bring little substance to the debates.
The lawyer emphasized that the high number of witnesses cited, with sometimes only one or two heard per hearing, contributes to the stagnation of the trial. "You can see that at this rate, the trial is not progressing," he lamented, expressing his feeling that the public has the illusion of progress when the reality is that of treading water.
Me Claude Assira, who defends the interests of the General Directorate of External Research (DGRE) in this case, had already expressed in February his opinion that the DGRE's involvement was the work of a "small group of people" rather than a state action. In the meantime, Martinez Zogo's body remains under seal at the morgue.
