Cameroonian forward Christian Kofane has shared his memories of his early days in Spain with Albacete Balompié, revealing a difficult adaptation period followed by a rapid breakthrough.
Kofane, a guest on the Talents d'Afrique program on Canal+ Sport 1, recounted his first steps on the international stage, marked by initial challenges before a meteoric rise. He described a complex adaptation period upon his arrival at Albacete Balompié, where he had to be patient before seeing his career take off.
"My arrival at Albacete was not easy," Kofane confessed, explaining that he spent nearly two months without playing, integrated into the under-19 group. This delicate phase could have hindered his momentum, but his determination remained intact. The turning point came when his coach finally gave him a chance, and Kofane was quick to seize the opportunity.
"First match, first goal," Kofane recalled. This immediate efficiency allowed him to gain visibility and progress quickly. A few weeks later, in January 2025, he joined the professional group. Again, the striker made a strong impression: "My first minutes, first ball touched, goal," he described, highlighting a meteoric rise.
This series of successes allowed him to gradually establish himself within the team. On July 11, 2025, Albacete announced that Bayer Leverkusen had reached an agreement for the transfer of Kofane, paying a sum higher than his €5 million release clause. He signed a four-year contract with his new club. This journey, made of patience and seized opportunities, illustrates the adaptation needed to succeed abroad.
