Cameroonian defender Che Malone has finally secured his continental trophy, winning the CAF Confederation Cup with USM Alger this Saturday after a final victory against Zamalek SC. The match ended in a 1-1 draw at the end of regular time, but the Algerians ultimately prevailed in the penalty shootout (8-7).
Following the victory, Che Malone shared a message of perseverance, recalling the setback he experienced in 2025. "After missing the opportunity in 2025, I finally got what I wanted. Whatever happens, never give up. Failure should never be a disappointment, but rather a source of motivation, a springboard to success," he wrote.
Having been a solid presence throughout this African campaign, the central defender of the Indomitable Lions expressed his joy after the match. USM Alger secured their second Confederation Cup title, the first having been won in 2023. In addition to the team title, Che Malone was named the best foreign player in the Ligue 1 Professionnelle for the 2025-2026 season.
The first leg, played in Algiers, saw USM narrowly defeat the Egyptian club 1-0. Zamalek responded in the return leg, winning 1-0 with an early penalty converted by Oday Al-Dabbagh. Despite intense pressure from the Egyptians in front of their home crowd in Cairo, USM Alger held firm and won the title on penalties.
Thanks to this victory, USM Alger takes home $4 million, a record sum promised to the winner by CAF. The Algerian team will also participate in the CAF Super Cup next season, where they will face either Mamelodi Sundowns or FAR Rabat.
