The Cameroon Hotels Corporation (CHC), the state-owned company that owns the Hilton Hotel in Yaoundé, is reaffirming its ambition to develop a 5-star hotel complex in Kribi, a booming coastal city in the South region of Cameroon. A recent addendum, dated May 8, 2026, extends the deadline for submitting applications under an international call for expressions of interest to June 9, 2026, signaling a crucial step in the project's preparatory phase.

The call for expressions of interest aims to select architectural firms for the development of a sketch of the hotel project in Idolo-Kribi. This approach marks an important step for CHC, which seeks to diversify its assets and establish a lasting presence in the high-end hotel sector in Cameroon.

The future establishment, positioned as a 5-star resort, aims to attract a varied clientele, ranging from tourists to business travelers, as well as regional visitors from Central Africa. CHC is banking on the growing attractiveness of Kribi, an emerging economic hub thanks to its coastal tourism, industrial investments and industrial-port complex.

Although no brand has been officially associated with the project, the hypothesis of a renewed collaboration with Hilton remains open. Such an alliance would consolidate the American group's presence in Cameroon, already present in Yaoundé and soon in Douala with the DoubleTree by Hilton project. Hilton's Managing Director of Development, Sub-Saharan Africa, Andrew McLachlan, highlighted Hilton's long-standing commitment to hospitality in Cameroon.

This project is part of an overall strategy to restructure CHC's assets. The company recently mandated a consortium to orchestrate a fundraising for the renovation of the Hilton Hotel in Yaoundé and its shopping center, an investment estimated at around 25 billion FCFA. CHC is also expected to be listed on the Central African Stock Exchange (BVMAC), reflecting its desire for modernization and financial transparency.

Kribi, with its white sand beaches and ecotourism potential, is attracting increasing interest in the high-end hotel sector. Other tourism projects are underway in the region, including a FCFA 15 billion tourist complex including a hotel and a golf course. CHC aims to make its future resort a major asset for the economic and tourism development of Kribi and Cameroon.

"On the path to our country's emergence, it is essential to build cultural and tourist landmarks that will enhance Cameroon's image both continentally and internationally," says CHC, emphasizing its determination to contribute to the growth of Cameroonian tourism.
