Manchester United's qualification for the upcoming UEFA Champions League will trigger a salary increase for most of its players. This pay raise, estimated at around 25%, is activated by contractual clauses included in player contracts.
This increase comes after the entire squad accepted a salary reduction during the seasons when the club did not participate in the European competition. Manchester United's return to Europe's most prestigious competition automatically triggers these clauses, allowing players to return to a higher salary level.
Among the players who will benefit from this increase are André Onana and Bryan Mbeumo. Team captain Bruno Fernandes is expected to see his salary rise to around £250,000 per week.
André Onana, the Cameroonian goalkeeper, currently earns a salary of £6.2 million per year, or approximately £120,000 per week. Bryan Mbeumo, the Cameroonian forward, joined Manchester United in 2025 and receives a base salary of around £150,000 per week, which could reach £200,000 thanks to Champions League qualification.
This salary revaluation reflects the club's renewed ambitions and the financial requirements associated with participating in the Champions League. The club will seek to monetize its participation in the European competition, while controlling its wage bill.
