Bayer Leverkusen and Arsenal played to a 1-1 draw this Wednesday at the BayArena, in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16. Starting in attack, the young Cameroonian Christian Kofane delivered a notable performance for his first appearance at this level.

Kofane, lined up at the spearhead of the attack, played the entire match. He displayed good activity, winning six duels and completing two dribbles out of two attempts. The young striker had expressed his motivation on the eve of the match: "I am really excited about this match. Arsenal is a great team. We have trained well and want to give everything we can," he said.

The match was intense, with Leverkusen opening the scoring in the second half, before Arsenal equalized. Kofane distinguished himself as early as the 7th minute with the first shot of the match. Despite pressure from Arsenal, Leverkusen held on, thanks in particular to a solid defense and Kofane's efforts in attack.

This result leaves regrets for the Germans, who led the score and thought they could win this first leg. The return match, scheduled for March 17 at the Emirates Stadium, promises to be decisive. Leverkusen will have to repeat its collective performance and Kofane will have to confirm his potential to hope to qualify for the quarter-finals.

Christian Kofane, 19, is establishing himself as a key player for Leverkusen. His start in the Champions League demonstrates the confidence his coach has in him. He became the second youngest player in the club's history to start a Champions League knockout match.
