The Chadian Petroleum Depot Company (STDP) has officially requested the expertise of the Cameroonian Petroleum Depot Company (SCDP) to modernize and secure its fuel storage infrastructure. This approach aims to improve Chad's storage capacities and secure its hydrocarbon depots, a major challenge to guarantee energy supply in the sub-region.
The request from STDP, created in 2018, comes as the company prepares to commission its first oil depots in Djamalaye, near N'Djamena. The SCDP, with its wealth of experience, is positioning itself as a key partner in this rise to power. "We are proud to contribute to this rise in power by sharing our expertise," said SCDP General Manager Véronique Moampea Mbio.
The exchanges between the two companies focus in particular on operational standards, security systems and good practices in the management of petroleum depots. The SCDP, created in 1979, highlights its network of 13 depots spread across seven regions of Cameroon, as well as a storage capacity of 242,000 m³ for liquid petroleum products and 3,970 metric tons for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in 2022.
This cooperation demonstrates regional recognition of Cameroonian know-how in the oil sector. It also illustrates the desire of CEMAC countries to strengthen their energy sovereignty by relying on local expertise. Beyond technical assistance, this partnership could pave the way for other regional collaborations in the field of energy.
By positioning itself as a mentor for STDP, SCDP is strengthening its role as a technical leader in Central Africa. This collaboration could serve as a model for other countries in the region wishing to develop their own storage and distribution capacities for petroleum products.
