Cameroon Postal Services (Campost) is taking a significant step in modernizing its financial services. The public company has launched a national open tender to acquire 400 Android electronic payment terminals (EPTs), equipped with an integrated payment application. This initiative aims to strengthen its electronic payment system and adapt to new digital uses.
The market, valued at 140 million FCFA including tax, will be financed by Campost's autonomous budget for the 2026 financial year. Cameroonian companies specializing in the deployment of electronic payment solutions are invited to bid. They must demonstrate experience in integrating EPTs on the MX Payment electronic payment switch and a financial capacity of at least 42 million FCFA. The deadline for submitting offers is June 8, 2026.
The acquisition of these terminals is part of a broader strategy to digitize Campost's services. The expected services include the supply of equipment, its commissioning and the integration of an embedded payment application. The maximum execution time is five months from the notification of the service order. The general management of Campost in Yaoundé is the indicated place of delivery, although the actual distribution of terminals in the network remains to be confirmed.
This initiative will allow Campost to strengthen its presence in the electronic payments sector, a market already well occupied by commercial banks and mobile money operators. For the public postal operator, the challenge is to enhance its territorial network and modernize its financial services, in line with the progression of digital transactions. In parallel, Campost plans to launch a national electronic banking network with the installation of 20 automated teller machines in the country's ten regions.
The modernization of Campost's financial services also involves other initiatives. In December 2025, the company announced an investment of 2 to 3 billion FCFA in Bolamba, an e-commerce platform aimed at making Cameroon a hub for online commerce in Central Africa. In addition, a partnership has been signed with Camwater to facilitate the payment of water bills via Campost Money. The effective integration of the new payment terminals into postal financial services and their adoption by users will be decisive for the success of this operation.
The call for tenders for the acquisition of 400 EPTs marks an important step in Campost's digital transformation, but its impact will depend on its successful integration into financial services and its effective use in the field.
