The South West Regional Assembly of Cameroon has adopted a budget of 15.2 billion FCFA for the year 2026. The decision was made during the Assembly's fourth ordinary session, held on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at the Buea Mountain Hotel. The agenda focused on reviewing and voting on the budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
The approved budget is precisely 15,208,471,639 FCFA. According to the President of the South West Regional Assembly, Zacheus Bakoma Elango, the funds will be primarily allocated to improving basic social services, promoting economic development, and protecting the environment. A significant portion will also be dedicated to strengthening citizenship, supporting sports and culture, and empowering young people.
The Governor of the South West Region, Bernard Okalia Bilai, representing the state, commended the Assembly's efforts. He encouraged members to further demonstrate the relevance and potential of the institution to the public. He also urged the newly elected councilors to surpass the achievements of their predecessors.
Nationally, Cameroon's state budget for 2026 totals 8,816.4 billion FCFA, a 14% increase compared to the previous year. This national budget emphasizes youth employment, women's empowerment, and infrastructure development. The government plans to cover a budget deficit of 631 billion FCFA through various borrowings.
