The Ministry of Finance in Cameroon has rejected a collective reimbursement request for electoral deposits submitted by the Front des Démocrates Camerounais (FDC). The General Treasury of Yaoundé II cited irregularities in the procedure initiated by the party of Denis Emilien Etangana as the reason for the rejection. The 70 individuals concerned are now required to appear in person to recover their funds.
According to a correspondence dated May 4, 2026, the FDC's request totaled 3,500,000 FCFA, intended to cover the deposits of several candidates in the regional elections of November 30, 2025. The administration considered that the proxy provided did not comply with the rules for managing public funds. The Treasury pointed to a confusion between the principal and the agent, as the party president had designated himself to receive the funds on behalf of the beneficiaries.
Consequently, the General Treasury of Yaoundé II rejected the collective procedure, deeming it non-compliant with the administrative standards in force. A radio and press release was issued the same day, inviting the 70 beneficiaries to appear in person to complete the necessary formalities.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Finance refuted accusations made by Denis Emilien Etangana on social media, which implicated certain Treasury officials. The administration called these allegations "baseless," insisting that its decision was solely based on compliance with procedures.
The FDC, a Cameroonian opposition party, had already made headlines earlier this year by relaunching its endorsements for the 2026 municipal and legislative elections, despite a break with its former presidential candidate, Hiram Iyodi. Denis Émilien Atangana had accused Iyodi of failing to adhere to party discipline. The party aims to strengthen its presence on the ground in view of the upcoming elections.
