The Minister of Trade, Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana, has announced the launch of the second phase of mobile caravans for the promotional sale of consumer goods in Cameroon. This governmental initiative aims to combat the high cost of living by facilitating access to essential goods at reduced prices for the population.
In Yaoundé, the operation will take place every Friday until March 13, 2026, at the entrance of the Central Mosque. These caravans are part of a broader policy by the Cameroonian government to stabilize prices and ensure the supply of essential products to the population.
Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana, Minister of Trade since 2004, has made price stabilization a priority. He also oversees the international marketing of Cameroon's agricultural products and serves as the spokesperson for the ACP (Africa, Caribbean, and Pacific) countries in multilateral trade negotiations at the WTO. In December 2025, he was elected president of the 14th WTO Ministerial Conference, which will be held in Yaoundé in March 2026.
These promotional sales initiatives are not new in Cameroon. In November 2025, the Ministry of Trade had already launched year-end promotional sales to counter speculation in the markets, particularly following post-election tensions. Similar operations had also been conducted on university campuses to help students obtain supplies at a lower cost.
The Cameroonian government hopes that these promotional caravans will help mitigate the effects of the economic crisis and protect household purchasing power, in a context marked by fluctuations in the prices of basic goods.
