Cameroon's liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports generated revenues of 350.1 billion FCFA in 2025, according to a report by the National Institute of Statistics (INS) published on April 1, 2026 [cite: ]. This represents a decrease of 30.6 billion FCFA compared to the 380.8 billion FCFA recorded in 2024 [cite: ].
The INS did not specify the reasons for this decline, but the International Energy Agency (IEA) suggested that lower global gas prices during the year may be the cause [cite: ]. The IEA noted in a January 2026 report that "the influx of LNG caused gas prices to fall in the second half of 2025 and brought European and Asian prices closer together" [cite: ].
Data from the INS indicates that LNG export volumes remained relatively stable, increasing slightly from 1.375 million tonnes in 2024 to 1.378 million tonnes in 2025. This suggests that the revenue decline is mainly due to price fluctuations rather than a decrease in export volumes [cite: ].
Despite the decrease, LNG remains a significant contributor to Cameroon's export earnings. In 2025, it ranked as the third-largest export product, accounting for 11.4% of total revenues. LNG follows cocoa (26.3%) and crude oil (22.9%) [cite: ].
Despite the decline in export revenues, LNG remains among the main providers of foreign exchange in Cameroon. This hydrocarbon is the country's 3rd largest export product over the period with 11.4% of total revenues. This product is just behind cocoa beans (26.3% of total export revenues) and crude oil (22.9%), according to the INS report [cite: ]. Cameroon began producing LNG in March 2018 through a partnership between Perenco, the Société Nationale des Hydrocarbures (SNH), and Golar LNG [cite: ]. The consortium deployed the Hilli Episeyo floating unit, which initially produced 1.2 million tons of LNG, before increasing its capacity to 1.4 million tons [cite: ]. LNG revenues peaked at 622 billion FCFA in 2022, before falling to 421 billion FCFA in 2023, and then to 381 billion FCFA in 2024 [cite: ]. Production from the Hilli Episeyo unit could reach 1.6 million tonnes through capacity expansion projects [cite: ].
