Cameroon's banana exports experienced a notable increase in 2025, reaching 225,345 tons, a 7% rise compared to the 210,686 tons exported in 2024. This performance is mainly attributed to the Compagnie des bananes de Mondoni (CDBM) and the Cameroon Development Corporation (CDC).
The CDBM, a subsidiary of the French group Compagnie fruitière de Marseille, recorded a dramatic increase in its exports, with a 69.5% rise to reach 23,814 tons in 2025, compared to 14,052 tons the previous year. For its part, the CDC, a state-owned agro-industrial company, saw its exports increase by 33.6%, reaching 42,286 tons against 31,643 tons in 2024. In contrast, the Plantations du Haut Penja (PHP), another subsidiary of Compagnie fruitière and leader of the local market, experienced a slight decrease of 1% with 151,713 tons exported in 2025.
Boh Plantations Plc saw its exports plummet by 35.8% to 7,532 tons, due to its withdrawal from the market from September 2025 following the acquisition of its assets by CDBM and PHP. This operation has strengthened Compagnie fruitière's grip on the Cameroonian banana sector, now controlling more than 80% of production.
Bananas represent a major economic stake for Cameroon, ranking among its top ten non-oil exports, mainly to the European Union. The country aims to increase its production to 500,000 tons per year by 2030, according to the objectives of the National Development Strategy 2020-2030.
