Cameroon's banana exports experienced a significant increase in March 2026, with a total volume of 23,977 tons, according to the Banana Association of Cameroon (Assobacam). This performance represents a 22.4% increase compared to the 19,585 tons exported during the same period in 2025, an increase of 4,392 tons.
The Plantations du Haut Penja (PHP) company, a subsidiary of the French agro-industrial group Compagnie Fruitière de Marseille, was the main driver of this growth. In March 2026, PHP exported 17,850 tons of bananas, compared to 13,809 tons in March 2025, representing a 29.2% increase.
The Cameroon Development Corporation (CDC), a public agro-industrial company, also contributed to this performance with a 7.6% increase in its exports, from 3,552 tons in March 2025 to 3,822 tons in March 2026. Despite this progress, the CDC is struggling to exceed 5,000 tons of bananas exported per month since its return to the sector in June 2020, due to difficulties related to separatist claims in the Northwest and Southwest regions of Cameroon. CDC activities were suspended between September 2018 and June 2020 due to violence and the occupation of its plantations by separatist militants.
The Compagnie des Bananes de Mondoni (CDBM), another subsidiary of Compagnie Fruitière, also recorded strong growth, with a 76.8% increase in its exports, from 1,304 tons in March 2025 to 2,305 tons in March 2026. Thanks to its PHP and CDBM subsidiaries, Compagnie Fruitière de Marseille accounted for more than 84% of Cameroon's banana exports in March 2026.
In 2025, banana exports generated 67.7 billion FCFA in revenue for Cameroon, an increase of 84.7% compared to the previous year, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS). In January 2026, Cameroonian banana exports saw a substantial increase of 36%, reaching 27,674 tons. This performance is due to the strong production and sales of the three operators active in Cameroon since the withdrawal of Boh Plantations PLC from the exporter register in September 2025.
Bananas remain a key export product for Cameroon, with Europe as the main destination. In 2023, Cameroon was the 13th largest banana exporter in the world. The country aims to reach a production of 500,000 tons by 2030.
