The sudden death of journalist Arnaud Nguefack, a senior reporter and deputy editor-in-chief at Canal 2 International, has sparked widespread grief within the Cameroonian political sphere. Nguefack, who passed away on March 1, 2026, at the Yaoundé General Hospital following a sudden illness, was widely recognized for his professionalism, talent, and journalistic rigor.
Minister of Public Health, Malachie Manaouda, expressed his sadness at the loss of someone he considered a friend. He praised Nguefack as "an exceptionally talented and professional journalist". Manaouda highlighted the journalist's demanding nature during debates on his show "Mots pour maux" (Words for Ills), a sharp investigative program dedicated to social and health issues.
Patricia Tomaïno Ndam Njoya, the Mayor of Foumban and a leading opposition figure, also shared her immense sorrow. She stated that "Cameroon has lost a talented journalist, a demanding and passionate individual, but above all, an honest man deeply committed to truth and serving the public interest". The former Member of Parliament emphasized Arnaud Nguefack's contribution to elevating public discourse through his dedication and thoroughness.
MP Cabral Libii conveyed his "consternation" upon hearing the news of the passing. The president of the PCRN party underscored the journalist's passion and professional rigor, qualities he witnessed during his appearances on Canal 2 and at the party headquarters. He lauded Nguefack's humility, respectfulness, amiability, and courtesy, as well as his distinctive voice and commitment to factual accuracy.
Several sources indicate that Arnaud Nguefack had been involved in a traffic accident a few weeks prior to his death. He had even confided in a close acquaintance that he had been bedridden for a month due to the accident. Nguefack began his career at Radio Tiemeni Siantou (RTS) before joining Canal 2 International, where he hosted the show "La Rétro". He also served as a correspondent for Radio Trans-Equatoriale in Yaoundé.
The news of his passing has plunged the Cameroonian media world into mourning. Numerous colleagues and collaborators have paid tribute to his memory and professionalism. Condolences are being extended to his family and loved ones.
