The controversy surrounding the Jetour car offered to Serge Daura, following his crowning at the 2025 Cameroonian Ballon d'Or, has raised many questions. Housseini Touré, sports director of Gazelle FA, spoke to shed light on this situation.
According to a statement relayed by Nord Actu TV, Housseini Touré reassured the public regarding the Jetour promised to the young striker during the ceremony on February 27, 2026. He affirms that the vehicle is currently under the responsibility of the club. "I can confirm that Serge Daura's Jetour is in good hands. From the day of the ceremony, we recovered the car. As Serge Daura is a minor, he does not yet master the steering wheel. We have secured the car at our level," he declared.
The question of the car had gained momentum after the trophy presentation tour in Garoua. Serge Daura had been seen aboard a pick-up truck, and not in the Jetour, thus fueling speculation and criticism.
The club's explanation is that since Serge Daura is a minor, he cannot drive the vehicle. Therefore, Gazelle FA is keeping the car until the player reaches the legal age to take possession of it. However, some observers remain skeptical of this argument, pointing out that the issue of age could have been raised before the award ceremony and that a minor's assets are generally managed by his legal representatives.
Serge Daura, 19, was crowned 2025 Cameroonian Ballon d'Or at a ceremony organized by the Cameroonian Football Federation. He was also named top scorer with 15 goals and 11 assists, and revelation of the season. In addition to the trophy, he received the keys to the Jetour car from the First Lady, Chantal Biya.
Serge Daura's coronation was hailed as a symbolic turning point, marking the emergence of a new generation of Cameroonian footballers. His talent, efficiency and consistency have made him an offensive leader for Gazelle FA, contributing to his club's third place in the Elite One championship.
While waiting to be able to take the wheel of his Jetour, Serge Daura continues to make headlines on the field, with the support of his club and his many supporters.
