Cameroon has been designated as the "star guest" of the 5th edition of the Commonwealth Trade and Investment Summit, scheduled to take place in London on April 20 and 21, 2026. This high-level invitation will allow Cameroon to showcase its investment opportunities to an international audience of heads of government, ministers, and business leaders.

The official invitation was presented to the Cameroonian Prime Minister, Joseph Dion Ngute, on March 2, 2026, in Yaounde by Lord Marland, Chairman of the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC). The summit will be held under the theme "Commonwealth Solutions to Global Challenges" and will address crucial topics such as artificial intelligence, sustainable energy transition, infrastructure investment, health technologies, creative industries, and the evolving global financial landscape.

Cameroon's participation is seen as a unique opportunity to highlight its attractiveness to investors and establish direct contacts with key decision-makers from the public and private sectors. Discussions in Yaounde also focused on strengthening trade and investment through the CWEIC's network of accredited businesses, which has a regional hub in Cameroon. The CWEIC claims over 100 strategic and government partners in 30 countries, facilitating targeted trade missions and business partnerships.

Lord Marland expressed his honor at having been received by the Prime Minister and at being able to personally present the invitation to the London summit. He also emphasized that his visit had allowed him to introduce to the head of government representatives of Commonwealth companies already active in Cameroon.

The London summit is intended as a platform for political dialogue and high-level networking, aimed at stimulating trade and cross-border investment. For Cameroon, this invitation is part of a broader strategy to leverage Commonwealth partnerships to attract more foreign direct investment and expand its access to markets, targeting priority sectors for its economic transformation. Cameroon, with its strategic position in Central Africa, aims to become a gateway to the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC).

The country has a diversified economy, with key sectors such as agriculture, mining, energy and services. The Cameroonian government is committed to improving the business environment and has implemented reforms to attract foreign investment. Projects are underway in the energy, infrastructure and mining sectors. Cameroon is targeting GDP growth of around 4% to 4.5% in 2026, supported by investment in infrastructure, agriculture and non-oil sectors.

The CWEIC, which is organizing this summit, aims to promote trade and investment across the Commonwealth, particularly in the UK and Nigeria. The CWEIC has an office in Douala, which also serves Gabon and Togo, providing strategic partners with a direct point of contact in the country. Cameroon has been encouraged to seize the opportunities offered by the Commonwealth, including lower bilateral trade costs of 21%, by establishing trade partnerships with Commonwealth member countries.
