The State of Cameroon has announced the repayment of the fourth tranche of its 2022-2029 bond issue, totaling FCFA 58.7 billion. The transaction, effective May 27, 2026, includes FCFA 47 billion in principal and FCFA 11.75 billion in interest. The information was made public by Louis Banga Ntolo, Director General of the Central African Securities Exchange (Bvmac), based in Douala.
Investors will receive FCFA 2,500 per bond, including FCFA 2,000 for principal repayment and FCFA 500 for interest. Collection operations began on May 28, 2026, at stock brokerage firms and account holding banks.
The 2022-2029 bond issue, with an interest rate of 6.5% and a maturity of 7 years, enabled the State of Cameroon to raise FCFA 235 billion. Initially, Cameroon was targeting FCFA 200 billion, but investor offers reached FCFA 239 billion, leading to an over-allocation authorized by the market regulator.
The funds raised through this loan were intended to finance road, energy, drinking water supply and urban development infrastructure projects. Part of these funds, namely FCFA 4.5 billion, was specifically allocated to launching reconstruction work in the Far North region, affected by Boko Haram attacks.
Cameroon is one of the most active sovereign issuers on the Bvmac, alongside Gabon and Congo. Regular repayments on this bond demonstrate Cameroon's commitment to meeting its financial obligations. Outstanding listed debt on the Bvmac now exceeds FCFA 1,490 billion, supported by the increase in sovereign issues and the growing financing needs of states in the sub-region.
