Construction work on the Edéa-Dizangué road, located in the Sanaga Maritime region, is progressing satisfactorily. According to officials from the Ministry of Public Works, the company CFHEC and the Kadeck control mission are actively mobilized on the ground. Roadway construction and culvert construction are underway.
As of the end of February 2026, several aspects of the project are advancing between Edéa and Dizangué. The construction of culverts for the basic market is complete, the installation of gutters is almost finished, earthworks are continuing, the foundation layer is being executed, and the implementation of the base layer is progressing. Specifically, the implementation of the foundation layer from kilometer point 0+50 to kilometer point 350 is complete, and the teams are preparing to work on the base layer. From PK 1+050 to PK 3+650, the foundation layer is also complete. Earthwork platform shaping is continuing between PK 9 and PK 12, while base layer implementation is underway between PK 0+350 and PK 1+050. The overall progress of the work is estimated at 31% as of February 24, 2026, demonstrating strong mobilization by the company.
Initially, the contract was awarded in July 2022 to the Zuidaf Sarl/Fredex Group consortium for an amount of 4.5 billion FCFA, with a contractual deadline of 12 months. However, due to delays and technical shortcomings, the contract was terminated. The project was then re-awarded to CFHEC, which is now responsible for carrying out the first phase between Edéa and Dizangué. This work is part of the public investment budget of the Ministry of Public Works for the 2025 and 2026 fiscal years, with a completion period of 12 months. The completion of this road is expected to facilitate the mobility of people, the transport of goods and access to rural areas, while strengthening regional connectivity on this strategic axis of Sanaga-Maritime.
In parallel, the shareholders of Minkouma Energy Company S.A. decided to increase the company's share capital at an extraordinary general meeting held on February 24, 2026. The capital was thus increased from 200 million FCFA to 1 billion FCFA. This capital increase aims to strengthen the company's financial base vis-à-vis its technical and financial partners.
The Minkouma project, valued at 584 billion FCFA, involves the construction of a hydroelectric dam coupled with a solar component. The expected hydroelectric power is between 240 and 300 MW, complemented by a solar field with an estimated capacity of between 50 and 300 MW. The whole is intended to diversify Cameroon's energy mix and secure the supply of a growing economy. The selection of companies in charge of project management is underway, and the signing of construction contracts is scheduled for June 2026. Financing agreements are expected to be finalized between September and November 2026, with actual work starting in December 2026. CCA Bank has expressed interest in leading the pool of local banks responsible for financing the project.
In another development, Joseph Espoir Biyong, sixth deputy mayor of Douala 5ᵉ, announced that his party, the Front pour le salut national du Cameroun (FSNC), is preparing for the return of Issa Tchiroma Bakary, currently in exile in Gambia. Biyong described this return as a historic event marking the beginning of a new era for Cameroon. He called on FSNC activists to mobilize and prepare for this event, while stressing the importance of prayer and peace. However, no specific date has been announced regarding this return.
