Cameroon is preparing to host the Scrabble International Super Masters, a prestigious event scheduled from March 11 to 15, 2026, in Bona’Anja-Yabassi. The Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, chaired an initial preparatory meeting to ensure the success of this international competition.
The meeting, held on February 26, 2026, at the ministry's headquarters, brought together representatives from various partner administrations involved in organizing the event. Participants included representatives from National Defense, External Relations, Communication, the National Gendarmerie, National Security, External Research, and CRTV.
According to Minsep, the Director of High-Level Sports Development provided an update on the ongoing administrative procedures, while the President of the Cameroonian Scrabble Federation presented the progress of the overall organization. The Cameroonian Scrabble Federation (FecaScrab) has been the organization in charge of organizing and promoting Scrabble in Cameroon since 1990.
Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, the current Minister of Sports and Physical Education, has held this position since 2019. He is also the traditional chief of the village of Bona'Anja Siga Bonjo, the planned location for hosting the Scrabble International Super Masters.
By hosting these Scrabble International Super Masters, Cameroon aims to strengthen its image on the international sports and intellectual scene. The country is mobilizing to make this event a success and demonstrates its commitment to promoting sports and culture. Douala will host the world's Scrabble elite from March 11 to 15, 2026. This competition is reserved for ambitious and passionate players of classic and duplicate Scrabble.
Cameroon is a significant player in French-speaking Scrabble, with over 320 players, including 113 licensed members in 13 clubs. Amédée Assomo, president of the Cameroonian Scrabble Federation, was elected president of the International Federation of French-speaking Scrabble (FISF) in September 2024, another victory for Cameroonian sports diplomacy.
