Cameroon is set to launch the "Peter Essoka Prize for Excellence in Journalism," an award designed to recognize the country's best radio and television presenters and hosts. The announcement was made by the Ministry of External Relations on February 20, 2026, as part of activities scheduled from February 28 to March 9, 2026, throughout the national territory.
This initiative coincides with the celebration of Commonwealth Day 2026, scheduled for March 9, whose theme is "Unlocking opportunities together for a prosperous Commonwealth". This day brings together the 56 member states around common values and shared goals.
The Peter Essoka Prize will annually reward four winners: the best male and female news presenters, as well as the best male and female hosts. Selection criteria will include diction, articulation, quality of performance, accuracy of information, and respect for professional ethics.
In a context where media credibility is crucial, this award aims to promote rigorous and responsible journalism. By highlighting professionals who adhere to the highest standards, it aims to contribute to the improvement of the national media landscape.
Each winner will receive a financial reward of 500,000 CFA francs, offered by the Ministry of External Relations in partnership with Merdolf Sarl. The selection of winners will take place from March 2 to 9, 2026, through phone calls and messages from listeners during the annual Commonwealth Radio Quiz, broadcast on the shows "Luncheon Date" and "The Mid-Morning Show" on CRTV. A jury chaired by Mr. Peter Essoka will make the final selection. The general public is invited to participate in this first edition, which is intended to be a major event for the recognition of merit in the media sector in Cameroon.
