The Movement for the Renaissance of Cameroon (MRC) has shown its solidarity with those imprisoned following the post-election tensions of October 12, 2025, by sending them donations. This action took place in the Ngoma and New-Bell prisons, located in the city of Douala.
On March 1, the opposition party delivered donations to the so-called political prisoners of these two establishments. More specifically, 300 inmates from the Ngoma prison and about a hundred from New-Bell benefited from this assistance. The donations consisted of basic necessities, including cartons of soap, cooking oil, condensed milk, bags of rice, pallets of mineral water, and bags of peanuts.
This gesture of solidarity was initiated by the president of the MRC, Maurice Kamto, and is part of the party's "solidarity pact," which aims to support Cameroonians in difficulty. The MRC made it clear that, even if all 400 detainees are not party activists, it wanted to provide humanitarian assistance to these people in need.
A few days earlier, Issa Tchiroma Bakary, president of the Front for the National Salvation of Cameroon, had also launched an appeal for solidarity in favor of these detainees, highlighting their difficult detention conditions, marked by lack of food, care and visits. The MRC's initiative is therefore part of a context of increasing attention to the situation of these prisoners.
