The kidnappers, acting on media reports regarding the prize money, demanded that Hamadou Ibrahim hand over the sum. The champion tried to explain that he had not yet received the money and that the announcement was only a media promise, but his explanations were in vain.
Faced with the kidnappers' incomprehension, a physical confrontation broke out. Hamadou Ibrahim, resisting his attackers, managed to prevent them from taking him to an unknown destination. The noise of the struggle alerted the villagers, who quickly intervened to subdue the three individuals, who were then handed over to law enforcement.

He had dominated the men's event on the slopes of the volcano, in the presence of the Minister of Sports, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi. Wirba Mary Grace also won the victory in the women's category.
