A heinous act has been committed in Foumbot, in the Noun department, West region of Cameroon, where a man was caught raping his 12-year-old niece inside a mosque. The discovery caused shockwaves throughout the local community.
According to reports, worshipers discovered the man in the act. The victim is the niece of the aggressor.
The reaction of the local population was immediate and violent. Angry residents apprehended the individual and inflicted public corporal punishment, whipping him in front of the community. One witness stated that it was unthinkable to let such an act go unpunished.
Following this public chastisement, the man was handed over to law enforcement. An investigation is underway to shed light on the exact circumstances of this crime.
In Cameroon, the Penal Code provides for severe penalties for perpetrators of sexual violence against minors, ranging from 10 to 20 years of imprisonment. In the specific case of incest, the charges are considerably increased.
