The Cameroonian government is accelerating work on key infrastructure, notably the Yaoundé-Douala axis and the Douala East entrance. On March 6, 2026, the Minister of Public Works, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi, inspected the progress of the construction sites, emphasizing the importance of these routes for the country's economy.
On National Road 3 linking Yaoundé to Douala, attention is focused on kilometer point 63, identified as a critical point for traffic. The works consist of stabilizing the platform and rehabilitating the roadway, thus correcting the degradations that hinder traffic. These interventions aim to restore optimal traffic conditions on this vital axis for economic exchange between Cameroon's two main cities.
In Douala, the inspection focused on the East entrance, a project executed by MAGIL Construction Corporation. With an overall progress rate of 84.8%, the construction site is approaching its final phase. Work on the roadway lot, carried out by subcontractor MAG, is also progressing, with the completion of the gutters in both directions of the roadway. On the section linking the ARI roundabout to social housing, 3.1 km long, the works exceed 11% progress. The laying of interlocking pavers on the ARI – École publique Yatchika segment is also progressing, with nearly one kilometer already completed.
The Ministry of Public Works is optimistic about the completion of the Douala East entrance before mid-2026, if the current pace is maintained. These road projects are essential to improve traffic flow, stimulate the economy and improve the mobility of the population. Alongside these efforts, the Mayor of Yaoundé, Luc Messi Atangana, launched an operation to clear Kennedy Avenue of informal traders, underscoring the importance of urban order and respect for public spaces.
