Divisional Commissioner Oumarou was removed from his position as head of the Littoral Regional Division of the Judicial Police (DRPJ) on February 26, 2026, on the instructions of the Delegate General for National Security (DGSN), Martin Mbarga Nguélé.
He is suspected of involvement in the misappropriation of a drug shipment seized in Douala, with an estimated value of 600 million FCFA. The drugs, initially destined for destruction, have allegedly disappeared. Members of the judicial police, fearing sanctions, are said to have implicated their hierarchical superior.
Amid increased surveillance of drug trafficking in Cameroon, this decision was made, and Oumarou's arrest is reportedly imminent. In January 2023, the former head of the Douala airport border police, Divisional Commissioner Babanguida Ahmadou, was also dismissed for similar acts and imprisoned in Yaoundé Kondengui central prison.
On February 25, 2026, Martin Mbarga Nguele appointed Divisional Commissioner Alain Camille Nguen Sany as the new interim head of the Littoral judicial police, replacing Oumarou. Previously stationed in Bamenda, Nguen Sany takes up his new post in a tense climate.
Oumarou's dismissal may be just the tip of the iceberg. Several police inspectors and officers from the Littoral DRPJ are currently being questioned at the DGSN in Yaoundé. Some members of the brigade who carried out the initial seizure are reportedly under "strict arrest" while their involvement in the disappearance of the drugs is determined. Investigators are seeking to determine whether this was an isolated act or a system for reselling seizures.
