The National Olympic and Sports Committee of Cameroon (CNOSC) has officially appointed Grégoire Owona as interim president, following the death of Colonel Hamad Kalkaba Malboum on May 13, 2026. The decision was made during an extraordinary session of the board of directors on Monday, May 25, 2026, in the presence of key figures in Cameroonian sports, including Samuel Eto'o.
As the first vice-president of CNOSC, Grégoire Owona led the reorganization efforts of the institution after the passing of its long-time president. In accordance with CNOSC statutes, the board of directors acknowledged the vacancy of the presidential post and entrusted Grégoire Owona with the duties of interim president until the next elective general assembly.
This transition has also led to a reshuffling of the CNOSC executive. Ntsama Assembe épouse Engoulou Célestine Odette has been appointed as first vice-president, and Talba Malla Ibrahim becomes second vice-president. The position of third vice-president remains vacant and will be filled at a future session. David Ojong has been confirmed as secretary-general, and Timba Majoré Louis as treasurer-general.
The board of directors also announced an official ceremony to honor Colonel Hamad Kalkaba Malboum, scheduled for July 4, 2026. A prominent figure in Cameroonian and African sports, Hamad Kalkaba Malboum dedicated several decades to the Olympic movement. The board has mandated Grégoire Owona to ensure the daily management of the institution and to make all necessary decisions within the scope of his new role.
