Cameroon's Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (Minpostel) has set clear priorities for 2026, placing rural connectivity, cybersecurity, and postal sector modernization at the heart of its digital transformation strategy. During the New Year's greetings ceremony, Minister Minette Libom Li Likeng emphasized that 2026 would be a year of execution, not intentions, with a particular focus on the country's digital transformation within a secure environment.

Universal internet access and rural connectivity are a top priority. The goal is to connect every Cameroonian, regardless of their location, to the benefits of the digital world. This approach aims to stimulate the economy by facilitating access to digital financial services, e-commerce, telehealth, and online education in rural and underserved areas. By bridging the territorial digital divide, Cameroon hopes to expand its productive base and integrate more citizens into the formal economy.

Cybersecurity is another essential pillar of Minpostel's strategy. The Minister stressed the need to strengthen digital trust, considering it an indispensable economic asset for sustainable digital investment. Specialized equipment has been provided to the National Agency for Information and Communication Technologies (ANTIC) to enhance national capabilities for preventing and responding to cyber threats. ANTIC is now better equipped to identify and apprehend perpetrators of reprehensible online behavior. The Minister also emphasized the responsibility of users and the fight against online hate speech. In parallel with these efforts, Cameroon is engaging in international collaborations to strengthen its cybersecurity skills.

Modernizing the postal sector is the third priority area. This transformation aims to support the growth of e-commerce and strengthen financial inclusion through the digitization of services, partnerships with e-commerce players, and improved traceability. Campost, the national postal operator, plans to launch a payment card network in 2026, starting with the installation of 20 automated teller machines in the country's ten regions. This initiative is part of an effort to modernize services and promote financial inclusion, building on the operator's national coverage and historical presence.

Therefore, the year 2026 represents a crucial step for Cameroon's digital transformation. Achieving the set objectives in connectivity, cybersecurity, and modernization of the postal sector should make it possible to make digital technology a genuine lever for economic growth and competitiveness for the country.
