Cameroon is considering a partnership with Poland to accelerate the modernization of its transport infrastructure. On March 27th, on the sidelines of the 14th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Yaoundé, the Cameroonian Minister of Transport met with Aleksander Siemaszko, Director of the Department of Trade and International Cooperation at the Polish Ministry of Economic Development and Technology. This meeting was an opportunity to discuss investment opportunities in the air, road, rail and maritime sectors.
Poland has expressed interest in a technical and strategic partnership with Cameroon. In the field of air transport, this cooperation could take the form of support for staff training programs and exchanges of expertise between specialized institutions. Cameroon is seeking to diversify its technical and financial support to modernize its transport networks.
The Cameroonian railway sector is of particular interest to Poland, which could support network modernization projects. This contribution could include the mobilization of specialized companies, the supply of railway equipment and the transfer of skills. Partnerships in the maintenance of infrastructure and rolling stock are also being considered. In February, the Polish Ambassador to Cameroon, Michal Cygan, had already discussed these avenues of cooperation with the Minister of Transport, Jean Ernest Ngalle Bibehe.
The maritime sector is not left out, with possible Polish expertise in the modernization of port infrastructure, the development of logistics capacities and training in maritime professions. Cameroon considers this interest to be strategic, given the significant needs to upgrade its logistics chains and transport platforms. Rail modernization is a priority for Cameroon, aimed at strengthening the country's competitiveness by improving its port and rail infrastructure.
The realization of this collaboration remains to be seen in the coming months, but the mutual interest shown reflects a common desire to improve transport infrastructure in Cameroon.
