The municipality of Makénéné, in the Mbam and Inoubou department, Centre region, is in mourning. Its mayor, David Imbeng, passed away on the night of March 3 to 4, 2026, in Douala, following an illness.
Elected as head of the municipality in October 2020, David Imbeng was in the middle of his term when he was taken by illness. He won the elections against Brolin Njantou, his predecessor. During his term, he invested in the implementation of local development projects, as part of decentralization.
The association of United Communes and Cities of Cameroon (CVUC) confirmed the death and praised the memory of a man committed to the service of local development. According to the CVUC, David Imbeng will have marked his term by his proximity to the people and his commitment to the progress of his municipality.
The news of his death aroused strong emotion, especially in his home village of Kinding-Ndé. The chief of this village, His Majesty Feugnandeuh, expressed his sadness and highlighted the mayor's commitment to the development of Makénéné. He hailed the memory of a devoted servant whose action and determination contributed to the progress and cohesion of the district.
David Imbeng was known for his work to improve the living conditions of the population, in particular through the realization of community infrastructure projects. His name joins a list of mayors who died in office, such as David Kinding, Daniel Tchato Fongang and Bosco Siakam. The death of David Imbeng marks the end of a chapter for the municipality of Makénéné.
