Lawyer Christian Ntimbane Bomo has denounced what he considers an "illegal" limitation on the number of sponsorships allowed per lawyer for the Cameroon Bar entrance exam. According to him, this restriction is not justified by any law and opens the door to corrupt practices.
In a public statement, Me Ntimbane Bomo clarified that the sponsorship letter for the exam should not be confused with a traineeship commitment. He insists that it is simply a recommendation allowing a candidate to take the exam. He points out that no law limits the number of letters a lawyer can sign for those wishing to take the entrance exam for the traineeship.
"I maintain, no law, no text limits the number of sponsorship letters to be signed by a Lawyer to people wishing to present the entrance examination to the Lawyer's training course," he declared. For Me Ntimbane Bomo, limiting this number is a discriminatory and irregular practice, a source of material and immoral trafficking.
The lawyer calls on the Bar Association to review its position, which he considers illegal. He argues that this practice is the source of all trafficking and immoral behavior related to the issuance of these letters.
It is important to note that the conditions for organizing the examination for admission to the lawyer training course for the 2026 session stipulate that a candidate must provide a sponsorship letter from a lawyer with at least five years of seniority. The exam will take place on April 18 and 19, 2026, in Yaoundé. Files must be submitted no later than March 16, 2026.
Me Christian Ntimbane Bomo is a Cameroonian lawyer registered with the Paris Bar and a civil society actor. He is known for his positions on social issues and his commitment to the rule of law in Cameroon. He is also the executive chairman of the HÉRITAGE party.
The issue of sponsorship for access to lawyer training regularly sparks debate in Cameroon. Some see it as a form of corporatism limiting access to the profession.
