The Muslim community in Cameroon is preparing to celebrate Aïd el-Fitr on Friday, March 20, 2026. This official announcement was made by the National Lunar Crescent Commission (CNCL).
According to the press release issued Wednesday, March 18, 2026, by Professor Souley Mane, CNCL spokesperson from Yaoundé, the lunar crescent marking the end of the month of Ramadan was not sighted, neither in Cameroon nor in neighboring countries. Therefore, in accordance with Islamic rules, the month of Ramadan will be completed to 30 days.
"The month of Ramadan must be completed to 30 days and the celebration will be held in Cameroon on March 20, 2026, in shâ Allah," the statement said. The CNCL therefore invites Muslim faithful to prepare for this important celebration.
Aïd el-Fitr, or "festival of breaking the fast," marks the end of the month of Ramadan, a time of fasting, prayer, and reflection for Muslims around the world. In Cameroon, where Islam is an important religion, this festival is a time of joy, sharing, and family reunions. Known locally as Djouldé Soumaé, it is celebrated with fervor throughout the country.
