Cameroon is demonstrating its ambition to become autonomous in the field of military aeronautics. A significant step was marked by the visit of Air Brigade General Bède Benoît Eba Eba, Chief of Staff of the Air Force (GBA/CEMAA), to Air Base 201 in Douala on Thursday, March 5, 2026.
This visit highlighted the progress on the first major C2-type overhaul ever carried out on Cameroonian soil, involving a C130-H tactical transport aircraft. General Eba Eba emphasized that this initiative represents a strong act of technical and industrial sovereignty for the country.
The maintenance work is being carried out by technicians from the Cameroonian Air Force, with the support of the Portuguese industrial partner Aeromec. This strategic collaboration strengthens local skills while benefiting from international expertise. Aeromec, a subsidiary of the Portuguese group Omni Aviation, specializes in aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services. The company has been collaborating with the Cameroonian Air Force since 2016-2017.
More than 3,000 hours of work and hundreds of control points are required to complete this maintenance, which must meet the most stringent international standards. The completion of this work is scheduled for the second quarter of 2026. This achievement paves the way for other major interventions on the aircraft of the Cameroonian fleet.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to modernize the Cameroonian Air Force, as General Eba Eba has emphasized since his appointment in July 2025. Cameroon intends to strengthen its air defense capabilities and ensure better mobility for its troops, particularly in the fight against Boko Haram.
