A man was shot dead on Monday, May 11, 2026, in Chief Street Bomaka, a neighborhood in Buea, in the Southwest Region of Cameroon.

According to eyewitness accounts, gunshots were heard early in the morning. The victim was discovered lying in a pool of blood. Witnesses say the man succumbed to his injuries before help arrived.

Sources cited by MMI Infos attribute the attack to armed men suspected of being separatist fighters operating in the region.

For now, the victim's identity has not been released, and the exact circumstances of the attack remain unclear. Authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding this incident.

The Southwest Region, like its neighbor to the Northwest, has been embroiled in a separatist conflict since 2017. Armed groups carry out attacks, kidnappings, and killings, forcing thousands to flee their homes.

In February 2024, a similar attack in Molyko, Buea, claimed the lives of at least one person and injured several others. The assailants, identifying themselves as separatist fighters, justified their actions by the failure to comply with the "ghost town" days imposed every Monday.

In January 2023, Human Rights Watch estimated that at least 6,000 civilians had been killed by government forces and separatist fighters since late 2016 in the Northwest and Southwest Regions.
